Northern Tanzania is the home of the classic
safari experience, a spectacularly diverse cluster of
eco-systems and habitats, linked by the movements of
as definitive a cross- section of wildlife as is found
on the African Continent. From the endless short-grass
plains of the Serengeti to the dense riverine forests
of Lake Manyara, the classic African savannah of Tarangire
to the lushly blended eco-systems of Ngorongoro, there
runs a shifting migration of African wildlife that perfectly
captures the safari experience
Hippo are based in Dar es Salaam, to the
South of the country and in conjunction with our affiliated
company in the north, we operate a limited series of
safaris across the world-famous Northern Circuit of
Serengeti, Ngorongoro and beyond. We operate the different,
the exclusive, the adventurous and the special, based
on our experience guiding across these areas for ten
years.
Serengeti and Ngorongoro are justifiably
world-famous, but there are still different ways to
encounter them, leaving the crowds behind in search
of genuine African Adventure. Away from the main trails,
there are active volcanoes, cave paintings, genuine
tribal encounters, unhurried wildlife and landscapes
that would not seem out of place amongst the primeval
fires of Creation.
Serengeti
-------------
The Most Famous National Park in the World, this vast
park is the backdrop for the epic sweep of the wildebeest
migration, the most fantastic natural spectacle on the
planet. A park the size of Northern Ireland, it is still
possible to leave the majority of visitors behind and
discover your own private gamelands with the right safari
company.
Ngorongoro Crater
---------------------
A sunken crater ringed by sheer 2,000 feet walls, this
spectacular natural amphitheatre is compared to the
original Garden Of Eden with a definitive range of eco-systems,
resident wildlife and a very real chance of seeing the
Big Five in a single day.
Ngorongoro Highlands
-------------------------
These rolling verdant hills East of Ngorongoro Crater
provide classic trekking opportunities, walking amongst
wildlife with Masai Warrior guides to little known craters
and volcanoes.
Tarangire
------------
The classic Africa of giant Baobab trees, rolling savannah
and acacia parkland, populated by huge herds of elephant
and a dry season population second only to Ngorongoro
in numbers.
Lake Manyara
----------------
Hemingway's Rift Valley oasis, this small pocket of
riverine forest, nestled at the foot of the Rift Valley
Escarpment is home to an astonishing biomass of tropical
birds, monkeys and classic African Big Five game. Canoeing
on the lake, village walks and mountain biking all add
dynamic elements to the safari opportunities.
